City Description of Portola Hills In Orange County
Portola Hills is an area in Lake Forest located in Orange County, in California USA. This is a pretty small area as during the census that was conducted in the year 2002, the population stood at about 6,391 for the entire place. It was also around this time in 2002 that it was incorporated into City of Lake Forest in California.
From the late 1880s all through to the early 1990s, tracts were developed. These were designated places where housing units were built. This development was named after the first terrestrial Spanish Explorer Gaspar de Portola. He was remembered here even though he passed through the place in 1769. (Trabuco Canyon that is nearby got its name from a blunderbuss that was lost by some expedition members during some of the exploits they had there)
The 200 census which revealed the place has a total of 6, 391 people also showed that there were 1, 729 families and 2, 164 households residing in the CDP. The density of the population was estimated to be 1, 955.1 /km2 (5, 063.6 for every square mile). There were also 2, 181 housing units averaging to about 667.2/km2 (1,728 for every square mile). Racial makeup in the CDP was White 84.06%, African American 1.63%, Native American 0.30%, Asian 6.76%, Pacific Islander 0.13%, other races 2.64% while two or more races made up 3.94%. Latino or Hispanic race made up 10.03% of the entire population.
Out of the total 2, 164 households; non families made up 20. 1% female household where the husband was not present was 8.1%, married couples who were living together were 69.4% while 52.4 % had kids who were below the age of 18 living with them. 1.4% of the households constituted people who were older than 65 years and older living alone while 14.0% of the households had individuals. Average household size was about 2.95 where the average size of the family was 3.30.
